Henley Stone Specialists, part of the Henley Construction Management Group, has been appointed to deliver the Glass Reinforced Concrete (GRC) elements for the first phase of Our Cultural Heart.
As a proud West Yorkshire-headquartered business, Henley Stone Specialists is deeply invested in the region’s growth and transformation. Based in Wakefield, the company is one of the UK’s leading experts in building façade installations, having built a national reputation for delivering complex architectural solutions across both new-build and regeneration projects.
Being delivered by BAM Construction, the first phase of Kirklees Council’s ambitious redevelopment focuses on transforming Huddersfield’s iconic 1970s market building into a vibrant new food hall and modern community library hub, connected by a landmark new public square.
Glass Reinforced Concrete (GRC) has been selected for its strength, fire resistance, design flexibility, and lightweight properties, making it a key material in a scheme that honours the town’s heritage, while embracing a modern future. Henley Stone Specialists has been appointed to deliver the full GRC package, from early design coordination through to manufacture, logistics, and on-site installation. Working closely with BAM and their dedicated project team, the company brings national expertise to a project that holds deep local significance.
Dave Cawley, Construction Director at Henley Construction Management Group, said:
“As a business rooted in West Yorkshire, it means a great deal to be involved in a regeneration project of this scale and significance right here in our Groups region. From the outset, we have worked closely with BAM to support early-stage design detailing and logistics, ensuring the GRC package integrates smoothly with the wider programme. This is about more than installation, it is about smart planning, collaboration, and adding value to a transformational project in a place we are proud to call home.”
Matt Garnett, Construction Manager for BAM, reinforced the value of sourcing locally:
“We are committed to collaborating with regional specialists who understand the area, its challenges, and its potential. Henley Stone Specialist’s knowledge of both the product and the area makes them a valuable partner in achieving that vision.”
Cllr Graham Turner, Cabinet Member for Finance and Regeneration at Kirklees Council, added:
“Our Cultural Heart will drive real long-term, economic impact for Huddersfield and the wider region. By focusing on a regional supply chain, we’re not just investing in the future – we’re creating opportunities and supporting businesses and jobs right now, during construction.”
